Japan’s largest clan school Kodokan Mito Han School (the university in the Edo period) opened in1841 by Tokugawa Nariaki, the feudal lord of the 9th generation of Mitohan. Tokugawa Yoshinobu, the last general of shogunate, studied in Kodokan Mito Han School when he was young, and was confined here after Taisei hokan. The front entrance, the main hall and the Nobility hall survived wars, becoming the important cultural legacy of Japan.
